Ashley and Steven met 15 years ago in the same classroom and started to date 3 years later. Steven decided to propose to Ashley in the library where they would usually sit and eat together. The day of their proposal, Ashley thought it was just another random day. She had no idea that Steven made a decision to spend the rest of his life with her.
When I met Steven he looked like a very serious man who never smiled. Boy was I wrong. Steven is a jokester. During our meeting he was cracking me up. His proposal plan ended up being very sentimental with an added spicy twist to it, just like Steven himself.
Last April as they were spending some time together in the library, and Steven made sure they would sit in a specific cubicle. As they were getting ready to eat Steven threw a Taco Bell sauce package on Ashley. She caught it and as she was about to open it she read “Will you marry me?”. She laughed out loud saying how funny that they would put that on their sauce. As she was laughing and reading that to Steven he was already on his one knee with the ring in his hand and a big smile on his face.
For their engagement shoot we started at their house, where they were snuggly with their cat Harry. From there we went to Detroit Public Library where I found out that Steven had a swollen foot and could barely walk. We had to minimize walking and be done with the shoot as fast as possible so he can get some rest. There was one more stop we had to make while in Detroit. I had an eye for awhile of this beautiful mural by the talented Ouizi in West Village. I’m so glad Ashley loved it too, because it made a beautiful backdrop. Since we were there very early the sun was strongly hitting the wall so we finished the session across the street on a sidewalk at The Red Hook.
Ashley and Steven you have been together over a decade and it’s so amazing to witness your pure love. I’m so happy that you chose me and invited me to be a part of your special day. I can’t wait to hang out with you in just about a month. Your June wedding is going to be awesome, just like you two are.
